Have you ever heard a preacher, perhaps many years ago, preach that we could be one generation away from a Christless country? If we didn't stand up for truth and raise Godly children the future of our country is bleak- many preachers have warned. No doubt this was dismissed as sensational by most listeners. the concept of the United States not being a "Christian nation" was and is unthinkable to many. However, I am afraid those warning sermons were more prophetic than we would like to admit.

I am convinced we are now living in post Christian society. We still have a foundation of Christian values and thousands of dying churches to show our past, but the Church and the Lord it represents is no longer prominent in our society anymore. Perhaps like nowhere on earth Americans are hardened and disinterested in the Gospel and know they are growing every bolder to slander and attack the faith that was once so reverenced. It has been noted that one of the keys to our success as country, especially early on, was the strength of the church and the Christian ethic in the hearts of our people. sadly, this no longer the norm.

Allow me to give a few examples:

1. Dan Brown produces a "fiction" book "The DaVinci Code" that grossly misleads people and maligns the church of Jesus Christ and yet it is a huge best seller and the average person sees no problem with the book.
2. 4,000+ babies are aborted everyday in this country and after decades of this infanticide the "Christian majority" has not risen up to stop it. (I realize many great Christian organization are working hard on this and making some progress but the overall situation illustrates how the majority is NOT Christian, if it were stopping abortion would not be so hard.)
3. Film maker James Cameron produce a show on the discovery channel that proposes to find the family tomb of Jesus. The pure stupidity of this charade is not worthy of comment here, but the point is a man can make headline news by attempting to destroy the foundation of the church and it's theology and there is no real outcry. Our Lord is defamed and attacked and it is readily accepted in our society.
4. Militant Atheist write books and produce web site that brutally savage Christians (not so much other faiths??) and spew their rhetoric of so-called "reason" which is nothing more than a anti-Christ religion. The scary thing about real atheist is that they are more religious that Christians and their numbers are growing. Bashing Christianity in en vogue.
5. Network Television on almost any night of the week overtly lampoons Christians and there faith (i.e the Simpsons) and most Christians watching don't even notice.
6. The moral decline of our country is no longer a slippery slope we are in an absolute free fall. The avalanche of drug and alcohol addiction, pornography, gambling(which is virtually legal and unchecked in most states), abortion, and much more has overtaken our country like never before in our history.
7. If these few examples are not enough simply check the church role and most churches in our country. Churches are dying and baptisms rates are at all time lows. The culture is changing the church instead of the church changing the culture.

All of this is terrible news, but I say it's an awesome time to be an evangelist! Our country is a mission field and it's exciting to think of God can do right here at home in our Post Christian society.
